5 REASONS BLACK WOMEN DON’T WEAR NATURAL HAIR ALL THE TIME

The fact that we don’t wear our natural hair shouldn’t be linked with self worth. There are 5 different reasons on why many black women don’t wear their natural hair. And even so, some of them do sometimes or would love to. But it has nothing to do with self worth or despising our own roots and/or culture.

  Lifestyle

Taking care of our natural hair requires lots of patience. Sometimes our daily activities enable us to care for our hair as we would like to.

Time

This one is closely related to lifestyle. Haircare is time consuming but Kinky Hair is super difficult to handle, so many women choose to avoid caring for their natural full-time and go for protective hairstyles.

Profession

Unfortunately, black women are still cut off by their superiors and are told not to wear their natural hair. Yes... prejudice is that disgusting.

Sometimes it dependes on the career path each women decides to pursue. As a student nurse I recall doing my placements with black women who worked more than 50 hours a week, had family and a whole house to take care of . So they used to wear wigs. Absolutely understandable.

 Location

Location plays an important role . For instance, living  in a city like London can make it difficult sometimes, especially because of the weather. Sometimes it’s so humid outside that it makes our hair look funny, a protective hair style kinda puts the stress away.

 Beauty ideals

Gosh! I’m eager to see the day where people will stop with the beauty standards “ standard”.

Black women are still fighting all the years of oppression so please y’all give us a break. We’ve been told black is not beautiful and kinky hair looks terrible. But now here we are. Otherwise this blog wouldn’t be here.

Y’all please stop assuming that black women who don’t wear their natural hair all the time hate themselves. Our hair, our choices.

Have a blessed weekend!
